slightly sidetracked...

I needed to keep busy today, in between walks in the snow and mugs of hot chocolate.

I bravely ventured into my stash cupboard and pulled out this WIP, started when I was very new to crochet (last August) and had every intention of making a single bed size blanket for *E*, who likes bright and colourful things, but especially likes sunflowers. I'm ashamed to say that I would quite like to call it a day and turn this into a cushion cover instead! Yes, yes, shame on me. I know, and look at all that stash just waiting to be busted too!

I do like the way it's coming together, I just don't like the way each square is kind of 'intense' ie. a pattern I forget if I leave it for a day.

So, cushion cover now or blanket by the time she leaves home? What do you think?

  1. mmm I have a granny blanket that has grown about that big... I know what you mean about it being intense, with all those different stitches to remember in each round. it's not a traditional way to do it, but what if you made lots of middles, then lots of the next round etc. might grow quicker.
or a cushion would be lovely too.

    1. That's a brilliant idea! Now why didn't I think of that? I wouldn't have to keep referring to the pattern that way. Doing a pile of middles or petals etc would also make it more portable. Thanks :-)

  2. Also, if I were you I'd do several border rounds on each square from now on. That way you'd have a panel of all sunflowers in the middle (ie the bit you've already done) with the rest of the blanket less sunflowerly-intense. That would give you much more effortless crocheting per square foot.

    1. sorry cj, meant to do that comment as a reply instead of a new comment.

  3. I like this idea, thanks cj. In fact, it is tempting to unpick the existing squares and do bigger borders on each one. We could re-write Einstein's Theory of Relativity here, instead of E=mc2 we could have EC=M(sq) effortless crochet = metres squared! J:-)
